Bill Killeen, CEO, and Paul Sullivan, Senior Vice President – International at Acrow Bridge, a leading international bridge engineering and supply company, recently took part in The Corporate Council on Africa’s 8th annual U.S.-Africa Infrastructure Conference. The event took place from November 5-6, 2018 in Johannesburg, South Africa and highlighted novel approaches infrastructure leaders have implemented to successfully complete ambitious projects. Attendees included African and U.S. government officials, service providers, financiers, investors and private sector executives.
Killeen participated in the opening plenary, in which panelists discussed the development of infrastructure space, how they are approaching major projects, overcoming key constraints, and seizing new opportunities. Killeen’s co-panelists were Sola David-Borha, Chief Executive, Africa Regions, Standard Bank; Farid Fezoua, President and CEO, General Electric Africa; David Picard, General Manager Africa and Middle East, Caterpillar, Inc.; and Ramsey Nash, Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator, Africa Bureau, United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The panel was moderated by Florizelle Liser, President, Corporate Council on Africa.
Sullivan took part in a panel titled “Revolutionizing Africa’s Transportation,” which focused on the innovative technologies that are positively disrupting the transportation space and highlighted novel and well-tailored incentives for transportation project developers and investors across the continent. Sullivan’s co-panelists included Justine Letard, Business Development Consultant, Empty Trips; David Ocholi, Commercial Manager, Global Trade Digitization, Maersk; and Admassu Tadesse, President and CEO, Trade and Development Bank. The panel was moderated by Witney Schneidman, Senior International Advisor for Africa, Covington & Burling, LLP.
“Transportation infrastructure is critical to trade and commerce, and the foundational stone for sustainable economic growth and social activity,” said Killeen. “Since 2000, Acrow has constructed more than 1,000 of its U.S.-made prefabricated modular bridges on the African continent, and virtually all are located in rural regions where robust bridges are most needed. New bridges, along with improvements to existing crossings, will help to support trade by reducing extremely high freight costs, thus allowing for true competitiveness locally as well as globally.”
A frequent speaker at international development conferences, Sullivan added, “It was a distinct pleasure to have taken part in this important event. Strong collaboration between the public and private sectors in both the U.S. and Africa to increase trade and investment, particularly in infrastructure, is essential to the fulfillment of Africa’s economic potential and the broadening of prosperity across the continent.”
