Flambeau Plant Achieves Milestone in Columbus

One Year with Zero Accidents

Flambeau
Associates of Flambeau’s plastic injection and blow molding plant in Columbus recently marked one year (365 days and 189,238 hours worked) of operation with zero lost-time accidents or recordable injuries. Celebrated by the crew on July 13, 2023 in Columbus, this achievement sets Flambeau apart in a manufacturing industry that experiences approximately three accidents per 100 workers in a given year in the United States, according to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA).

Achieving zero accidents in manufacturing requires many levels of commitment. In Columbus, Flambeau associates perform safe work practices and participate in continual training and personal safety equipment requirements. These associates are empowered to operate machinery and perform duties safely, and they report and investigate near misses and incidents. Constant attention by maintenance crews keeps machinery and safety devices in top working order.

“Attention to work areas and an all‐inclusive team approach to improve safety for all plant associates was key to reaching this milestone,” said Bill Ray, EHS (Environment, Health, & Safety) manager of Flambeau’s injection and blow molding facilities in North America, who oversees the continuous application of safe work practices and health protocols. “Maintaining an injury‐free workplace at all of our locations is our first initiative and top priority, and this milestone at the Indiana plant is significant in achieving this objective.”

Flambeau is a highly diversified thermoplastics manufacturer in North America. Associates at the Columbus plant produce product for mass merchants in retail, e-commerce distributors, the automotive industry (T1 & T2), commercial/industrial OEMs, and customized product for third party trademarks. They also provide product assembly and packaging services for a variety of markets. The plant has 100 associates and operates a fleet of 17 injection molding presses ranging in tonnage from 100 to 1,900 and three blow molding presses ranging from 15 to 35 pounds in shot size.

“Thanks to all Flambeau associates in the Columbus plant for demonstrating the proper care to perform every day,” said Randall Loga, CEO and president of Flambeau, Inc. “The achievement of going a full year without a lost-time accident is further reinforcement safety is our highest priority as we conduct our daily operations to serve our customers.”
